These are in contrast to non- action words , also called non- action  verbs, which are  words  that describe a state of being   a need   an opinion or a sense   2.Linking Verbs In traditional grammar and guide books, a linking verb is a verb that describes the subject by connecting it to a predicate adjective or predicate noun. Unlike the majority of verbs, they do not describe any direct action taken or controlled by the subject.
